Unidentified callers claiming to be cops collecting circulation details of newspapers in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: In an unusual move, the Kerala police have been suspected to be behind collecting circulation details of newspapers in the state. However, Kerala Police have denied any involvement in contacting newspaper agents across different districts to collect such information.
As per the reports, newspaper agents received calls from individuals identified as cops of the special branch. Following this, they asked about the number of newspapers sold, details of circulation, and agencies. Besides this, newspaper circulation officials in various districts are also receiving calls.
Meanwhile, senior officials in the Police and Vigilance departments denied issuing such orders. The majority of the calls were received in Kannur, Kozhikode, Kottayam and Thrissur districts.
At the same time, it is alleged that some newspaper organisation is using the Police to collect the circulation numbers of other competitors.
