Kolinjambara : An 11-year-old boy ran away from home unable to endure the constant abuse from his father. Thanks to the timely intervention of the Kolinjambara police, the child was rescued and handed back to his guardians.

The incident came to light around 10 am on Sunday, when a young man rushed into the Kolinjambara police station. He informed the officers that a child had come along with him and had claimed that his parents were on the verge of dying. Suspecting something was wrong, the youth decided to bring the boy to the police station. However, when he stopped his bike, the child suddenly ran away.

Acting under Sub-Inspector KP George, the police launched a search for the boy. On reaching Kolinjambara bus stand, they learnt that the child had boarded a bus moments earlier. The police immediately chased the bus, stopped it, and with the help of the young man, identified the boy and brought him back to the station.

During questioning, the child revealed that he had fled home because he could no longer bear the physical abuse inflicted by his father. The 11-year-old reportedly bore assault marks all over his body that was caused by repeated thrashing.

Based on the information provided by the child, police identified his home as Govindannur near Pollachi in Tamil Nadu. The police later contacted the boy’s mother and asked her to come to the station. She told officers that her husband regularly returned home drunk and assaulted both her and the child.

Since the boy resides in Tamil Nadu, the police informed the local police station there, as well as the child’s school and the Child Welfare Committee.
