Thodupuzha, Kerala: Two workers were killed and three others seriously injured after a concrete slab of a building being demolished collapsed at Muthalakodam in Thodupuzha, Idukki, on Monday.

The incident happened at Sanjo Home, located behind Muthalakkodam Girls High School. The slab reportedly collapsed while workers were engaged in dismantling the ageing structure.

At least four workers were trapped under the debris following the collapse. The Thodupuzha Fire and Rescue Services personnel reached the spot and carried out a rescue operation, pulling the trapped workers from beneath the debris.

The injured workers were shifted to a hospital nearby for treatment. The building had been used to accommodate elderly priests and was being demolished due to its age and deteriorating condition.

The deceased have been identified as Joy and Anoop, both reportedly natives of Kothamangalam. Further details about the accident are awaited.
