Thodupuzha, Kerala: A tragic accident claimed the lives of two people, including a four-month-old baby, after a car overturned into a ditch on the Thodupuzha-Puliyanmala state highway near Sankarapilly on Monday.

The accident happened around 4:45 PM during heavy rainfall. The victims were identified as Amina (60), mother of Shamon, a civil police officer at Vellathooval police station, and her granddaughter Misha Mariyam (four months old).

Shamon, who was driving the car, was accompanied by his wife and another daughter, all of whom sustained injuries.

The vehicle lost control, collided with a tree, and then plunged into a ditch. Both Amina and the child were rushed to a private hospital in Thodupuzha with severe injuries, but could not be saved.

The accident happened while the family was travelling from Moolamattam towards Vellathooval.
