Train arson attack: NIA to hand over documents to Kochi court

Kozhikode: The documents pertaining to the train arson attack at Elathur will be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Kochi from the Principal District and Sessions Court in Kozhikode on Thursday.

A team from the Kochi unit of NIA arrived in Kozhikode on Wednesday to receive the documents. NIA has requested to include a representative of the Kozhikode sessions court in the team which carries the documents to Kochi. 

The FIR, case diary, evidence, investigation report and reports of scientific tests will be transferred to the NIA court. 

The attack unleashed in the D1 coach of Alappuzha- Kannur Executive Express had claimed the lives of 3 passengers on April 2, 2023. Following the incident, suspect Shahrukh Saifi was arrested from Ratnagiri with the aid of the Anti Terrorism Squad of the Maharashtra police. He is currently under remand in Viyyur central jail.
