Kollam/Mannarkkad: Two heartbreaking incidents have left families devastated as young children lost their lives in separate accidents.

In Kollam, nine-year-old Vishwajith, a student of Kollam Vadi Devamatha Convent School, died when his disabled father's three-wheeled scooter on which he travelled overturned. The accident occurred around 9:30 am on Thursday at Polayathode.

The incident happened when Deepu was on his way to drop his son Vishwajith at school and wife at her job in a supermarket.

Locals quickly rushed the three to the district hospital, but Vishwajith could not be saved. Deepu sustained minor injuries. "He fell under the bus and we landed on the other side. The incident happened in a matter of seconds," said Deepu.

Following post-mortem examination, Vishwajith's body was kept for public homage and later cremated in Polayathode.

Meanwhile, in Palakkad's Mannarkkad, a six-year-old girl named Hiba met a tragic fate after alighting from the school bus. The incident occurred at 3:30 pm on Thursday in front of her home. Hiba, a first-standard student of Darunnajath English Medium School, Nellipuzha, was hit by the same bus she had just disembarked.

The driver came to know about the tragedy only after the bus had moved forward. Efforts were made to rush the injured girl to a private hospital in Vattambalam but she could not be saved.
