Those who commit terrible acts should receive deserved punishment, Tovino on Hema Committee Report

Actor Tovino Thomas has revealed that he had deposed before the Hema Committee, which had studied and prepared a report regarding the issues of sexual harassment and gender inequality in Malayalam cinema. The actor opined that if someone has done such a terrible thing to anyone, be it a man or a woman, they should get the deserved punishment.
In an exclusive interview with Indianexpress.com, actor Tovino Thomas addressed the issue of sexual harassment and gender inequality in Malayalam cinema, emphasizing that similar issues are prevalent across various industries worldwide.
Tovino revealed that he was consulted by the Hema Committee to provide insights into the inner workings of the Malayalam film industry. “If such a committee is set up in any other industry, not just films or anywhere in the world, you’d know that this problem exists even there,” Tovino said. “Now, if people say this happens only in the Malayalam film industry, it is hurtful for me because I’m a part of the industry,” he added.
He clarified that not everyone in the industry is involved or affected by such misconduct. “The report acknowledges that some people are experiencing and perpetrating these issues, but it’s important to note that this does not apply to everyone in the industry,” he added.
Tovino also emphasized that those who commit such "terrible acts" should receive the "deserved punishment." He added that it’s crucial not only to hold offenders accountable but also to implement measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
