High-speed chase ends in disaster: Drunk car driver injures tourist in Kochi

Kochi: A Goan woman sustained serious injuries after being hit by a car driven by an intoxicated youth in Kochi.

The victim, Jaysel Gomes, suffered head and leg injuries and has been admitted to a private hospital, where she is scheduled to undergo surgery.

The accident happened on SA Road. According to police, the accused, identified as Yasir from Chalakudy, was involved in a car chase. The CCTV footage shows the speeding car hitting Jaysel.

The chase reportedly began at Pallimukku Junction following an altercation with a bike rider. Yasir pursued the bike for about 1.5 km at high speed along S.A. Road before losing control and crashing into the metro station’s bridge railing near Kadavanthra.

Jaysel, who was walking with her husband Estevam, was caught between the car and the railing. The couple had come to Kochi for a vacation and were scheduled to return home on Sunday.

Kadavanthra police have registered a case against Yasir.
