TN to follow Kerala’s example in dealing with wild boar menace

Chennai: Tamil Nadu has sought Kerala's assistance in learning about the latter's strategies for dealing with the wild boar menace in the state.  

A committee formed by the Tamil Nadu government has visited Ottapalam in Palakkad district to study how the state has dealt with the problem of crop damage caused by wild boars.

The team headed by the chief wildlife warden of Tamil Nadu also includes farmers and forest and agriculture department officials. 

In May 2022, the Kerala government permitted local bodies to shoot wild boars under specific conditions. The heads of local bodies have been bestowed with the title of Honorary Wildlife Warden, empowering them to authorise necessary measures.

Furthermore, the chief wildlife warden can appoint the secretaries of the local bodies as the persons authorised to kill the wild boars.
