A fire broke out at an under-construction building housing the Mother and Child Care Ward at Government Medical College Hospital, Thrissur, on Tuesday. No casualties were reported as the building was vacant at the time of the incident.

Fire and Rescue Services teams from Thrissur and Wadakkanchery reached the spot and launched efforts to bring the fire under control. The teams are currently working to extinguish the blaze.

According to preliminary information, the fire is believed to have started on the top floor of the building before spreading to the lower floors.

As the building is newly constructed and had not been opened for use, no patients, staff members, or other people were inside when the fire broke out. Initial reports also suggest that no one was trapped inside the building.

The exact cause of the fire and the extent of damage are yet to be confirmed.
