Thrissur: A BJP worker was allegedly assaulted by fellow party workers inside an eatery near the Irinjalakuda bus stand in Kerala’s Thrissur district on Thursday evening, reportedly following a dispute over his social media posts.

Baiju Krishnadas was helping a friend at the eatery when he was allegedly attacked at around 7.30 pm. He suffered serious injuries and was later taken to hospital for treatment.

Visuals purportedly showing the incident inside the eatery have since emerged. In the footage, the attackers were heard warning Krishnadas and questioning whether he would continue writing such posts. He was also allegedly attacked with utensils from the eatery.

Motive behind attack

The attack reportedly came after Krishnadas had criticised BJP leadership and organisational affairs through posts on Facebook.

He had repeatedly raised questions about the functioning of the party in the Irinjalakuda area, including the management and allocation of election campaign funds.

Local party office-bearers have been named in connection with the alleged assault. Those identified include Kripesh Chemmanad, P.S. Subeesh, Jithesh Mohan and Akhilesh Vishwanathan.

Following the incident, Krishnadas sought medical treatment at a hospital for injuries sustained in the attack.

It is said that he plans to lodge a formal complaint with the police over the alleged assault.
