Special train announced between Thiruvananthapuram and Velankanni for May dates

A special train service has been announced between Thiruvananthapuram and Velankanni, with the railways confirming multiple scheduled departures in May, offering relief to pilgrims and long-distance passengers travelling to the popular Tamil Nadu shrine town.
According to Indian Railways, train number 06031 will operate from Thiruvananthapuram North at 11 am on May 13, 20, and 27. The service will reach Velankanni the next day at 3 am, covering the inter-state route overnight.
On the return leg, the special train will depart from Velankanni at 12.45 pm on May 14, 21, and 28. It is scheduled to arrive at Thiruvananthapuram Central at 5.45 am the following morning, completing the cycle of weekly operations.
The announcement is expected to benefit devotees travelling to Velankanni, a major pilgrimage destination in Tamil Nadu, especially during peak travel demand days in May.
What are the key timings and travel schedule of the special train?
The service follows a fixed weekly pattern with departures from both ends on specific dates, making it easier for passengers to plan their journey in advance. The overnight travel format also helps save daytime hours for pilgrims and long-distance commuters.
The new service is seen as a convenient travel option connecting Kerala and southern Tamil Nadu, improving accessibility to Velankanni during busy travel periods and easing pressure on regular train services.
