Thiruvananthapuram received 158 percent additional rainfall over last 15 days

Kottayam: Five districts in Southern Kerala have received more than normal rainfall between October 1 and 15. Thiruvananthapuram district registered an excess rainfall of 158 percent, with 333.9mm rainfall. Meanwhile, Pathanamthitta district received 101 percent of additional rainfall, with a total of 356mm during the same period.
As per the Meteorological department, Thiruvananthapuram received extremely heavy rainfall on Saturday. While 216mm rainfall was registered in Vellayani, 188mm, 211mm, and 165.5mm rainfall was received in Neyyattinkara, Ponmudi and Varkala respectively.
Even districts of Kollam, Alappuzha and Ernakulam received additional rainfall over the last few days. While Kollam received 41 percent additional rainfall, Alappuzha and Ernakulam registered excess rains of 48pc and 21pc respectively.
Kerala is expected to experience Thulavarsham within the next two days. Cyclonic depression is said to have triggered the current rainfall. It looms large over the coastal regions between Ernakulam-Thiruvananthapuram. As per the studies done at the Radar research centre in the Cochin University, cumulus clouds have triggered the current incessant rains in Southern Kerala. Sudden depressions have been reported in several places as well, causing damage to plants and properties.
