77-yr-old US man found starving, maggot-infested at Kovalam hotel

Kovalam: A foreigner was found locked up and ailing in pathetic condition in a private hotel near light house beach at Kovalam in Thiruvananthapuram. The bedridden person was identified as Irvin Fox, a 77-year-old US citizen. He was found with maggot-infested wounds and was bitten by ants too.

The pitiful condition of the person came to light by the intervention of Kovalam police, who were secretly informed by a source. On reaching the spot, Kovalam police shifted the person to Vizhinjam public health centre with the help of health department and palliative care authorities.

In the examination conducted by the health department, it was found that the person was not served sufficient amount of food or water for about four months. He is presently undergoing treatment at the public health centre and his health is in critical condition.

Fox has deep wounds on his legs and back of the body. According to caretakers who attended him, it will take more time to heal the wounds. It is learnt that hotel owner neither intimated police nor Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) to inform regarding the person. However, police intimated the matter to FRRO.
