Those who know English will understand what I wrote – Shashi Tharoor

Thiruvananthapuram: Further defending his stance, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor asserted that anyone who can read English would understand what he had written while congratulating the state government. He clarified that he had not given Kerala’s economy a perfect score and that his article was specifically about startups. He also pointed out that the CPM was not mentioned anywhere in the piece. Tharoor further questioned whether, with elections approaching in Kerala, his focus should not naturally be on the future of the state.
"I have been saying these things for the past 16 years. Young people from Kerala are migrating to other countries. To change this trend, the state needs industries and investments. If Kerala has finally started embracing something I have long advocated, and if those who once opposed investment while waving the red flag have now changed their stance, shouldn’t that be acknowledged? If my signature holds significance, I will continue writing," Tharoor asserted.
He pointed out that Kerala’s economy has its flaws and shortcomings, citing a crisis in the agricultural sector, including rubber cultivation. He also highlighted that 80% of public sector enterprises are running at a loss and that the fisheries sector is also facing challenges. Tharoor remarked that it was the Oommen Chandy government that first took the initiative to promote startups, and the current administration is building upon that foundation.
Willing to step down if necessary
Tharoor also stated that he is willing to resign from the Congress Working Committee (CWC) membership if required. His response came after Congress leaders, including UDF convener M M Hassan, urged him to step down from the CWC if he wishes to express personal opinions. Tharoor affirmed that if the party high command asks for his resignation, he would respond accordingly.
‘Globally renowned revolutionary and intellectual’
Meanwhile, hailing Tharoor’s stance, CPM Central Committee member A K Balan said that Tharoor is a globally renowned revolutionary and intellectual. Noting that Tharoor has won the Lok Sabha elections four times and has received numerous awards, Balan added that everyone acknowledges Tharoor's capabilities.
