‘Thank you, Kerala… this is the moment the defeated finally wins’: Lawyer of survivor in actress assault case shares heartfelt experience

The court verdict acquitting actor Dileep in the case involving the assault on an actress was announced last Monday. Since then, the survivor’s lawyer, Adv T B Mini, has been subjected to cyber attacks by some sections of the public. Mini’s Facebook post sharing her personal experiences on the day she travelled to court has now gone viral.

Mini described her journey from Aluva to Thrissur on the morning of Monday, detailing how strangers and fellow travellers recognised her and offered words of encouragement.

"I reached Thrissur court for a case. After December 8, I was in a frenzied mental state. Many people called out to console me, saying ‘you’ve won’," she wrote.

Moved to tears, Mini noted the gesture reassured her that many understood the struggles she faced despite false rumours being spread. The girl refused to take the fare for the ticket, simply holding her hands together and seeing her off.

On the train, several passengers recognised her, took selfies and expressed pride in her courage. Mini recounted that when she reached Thrissur court, fellow lawyers rushed to greet her, shake hands and offer support. Female colleagues hugged her warmly.

She quoted them saying, "We are here. You must remain brave. The lawyer faces more attacks than the survivor herself. The Supreme Court has directed that the survivor’s identity must not be disclosed, but lawyers receive no such protection. We are here for you."

Mini shared that for the first time since taking on the case, she felt the overwhelming solidarity and support of her peers, describing the emotion as indescribable.

Later, while having her customary tea outside the court, clerks and association members recognised her, called out her name and expressed heartfelt appreciation. Young people on the train also approached her for selfies, saying: "We hold meetings and protests. Be brave. We are aware of everything you’ve endured."

Mini recounted encounters with poets and cultural figures from across Kerala, who reached out to show support and recognition for her courage.

Her post concluded with a note of gratitude and triumph: "Thank you, Kerala… this is the moment the defeated finally wins."
