Thalassery’s Asraya Shelter home to be renamed in memory of Kodiyeri Balakrishnan

Thalassery: Asraya Charitable Society Shelter home, which was set up on the initiative of late CPM leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, has been renamed as ‘Kodiyeri Balakrishnan Memorial Shelter home’. 

The shelter home was constructed upon the wish of the leader for the patients who sought treatment at Kodiyeri Malabar Cancer Centre. Kodiyeri had served as the guardian of the centre since it was set up. 

The shelter home offers free accommodation and food for 35 patients and their bystanders. There are cooking facilities too. A new two storey building has also been constructed for parents and children.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the building and officially rename it as Kodiyeri Balakrishnan Memorial Shelter Home on April 8 at 4 pm. The building was constructed by society chairman OV Muhammad Mustafa at a cost of Rs 55 lakh.
