Kollam: Do you enjoy indulging in the rich flavours of tea? Then plan your next trip to the unique tea shop ‘B.Tech Chai’ at Pallimukku in Kollam. Flavours of 50 different teas await you at this shop run by three B.Tech graduates.

Ayathil native Anandu, his friend and classmate Kulapadam native Mohammed Shafi and his brother Shanavas, who graduated from Younus College of Engineering & Technology in 2019 are the master brains behind the shop. They started the chai shop on Vijayadashami to get rid of the problem of unemployment during the Covid pandemic.

Anandu and Shafi faced difficulties in continuing their jobs during the lockdown and amidst the Covid restrictions. Shanavas, who was working in different companies in Dubai and Gujarat after graduation, also faced many challenges during the Covid time. Hence, they vowed to find a job in their hometown.

There was not much room for second thought as all three are chai lovers. So, they decided to set up a tea shop, bought a cart on wheels, polished it up a notch, and named their shop ‘B.Tech Chai’. They made seats out of bamboo, wood and tires. They also started their business on the roadside near Pallimukku. They gained more confidence when their own masala concoction tea won the hearts of tea lovers.

Aromatic flavours, Ayurvedic plants, different chocolates, and nuts, the flavours are many. They are planning to include one special tea on the menu for each month. They also serve special Malabar snacks made by Kudumbashree members.
