Modi 3.0 likely to have two Malayalis; Suresh Gopi and George Kurian to be cabinet ministers

New Delhi: Kerala is set for a double celebration, as Suresh Gopi, the winner of the Thrissur LS seat, and BJP leader George Kurian are likely to be part of the Modi 3.0 government. George Kurian attended the Prime Minister's meeting on Sunday morning, but it is still unclear which department he will be assigned to.

George Kurian's inclusion in the cabinet is aimed at ensuring representation for the Christian community, whose votes were crucial for Suresh Gopi's victory in Thrissur. This move is similar to that of Alphons Kannanthanam's appointment as a minister in the first Modi government.

However, in the 2019 elections, the BJP did not achieve significant success in Kerala. To strengthen its presence in the state, the party has made efforts to connect with both the Christian and Hindu communities, including home visits.

Kurian has been a member of the BJP since the 1980s, having entered politics through the Student Morcha. He has held positions such as National General Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Vice Chairman of the Minorities Commission and an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) for the former Minister O Rajagopal.

For the last forty years, he has been working as General Secretary in charge of the State Office.
