Sudden tiger attack during enclosure cleaning leaves Thiruvananthapuram zoo supervisor injured

Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: Ramachandran Nair, supervisor at the Thiruvananthapuram zoo, sustained head injuries on Sunday morning when a female tiger attacked him inside the enclosure. The incident occurred while he was overseeing cleaning operations. According to reports, the tiger struck without warning, leaving him no time to escape.
Ramachandran suffered four wounds to the head and was administered stitches. He was initially taken to the General Hospital and later shifted to the Medical College. He has since been discharged.
What reports say about the female tiger
The tiger, named Babitha, was brought to the zoo from Wayanad in April 2024. She had undergone treatment for wounds before being shifted to the main enclosure following a quarantine period of nearly two months. Zoo staff maintained that the animal lunged from within the enclosure.
