Thiruvananthapuram: Police in Kerala have launched an investigation after a German musician, Lena Maier, was allegedly stalked by a group of unidentified individuals in Varkala, a popular beachside tourist destination in the Thiruvananthapuram district.

According to officials, the incident took place around 6.45 pm on November 1 near the Varkala Helipad area, where Maier was reportedly followed and harassed by a group of unknown persons.

Following the incident, Maier informed the German authorities in Thiruvananthapuram, after which the Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany filed a formal complaint with the District Police Chief.

Based on the complaint, Varkala Police registered a case on Sunday under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) — including Sections 189(2) (unlawful assembly), 190 (common object liability) and 78(2) (stalking).

“Efforts are underway to identify and trace the individuals involved,” a police official said, adding that it is suspected the accused may be from another state.

Police have also begun examining CCTV footage from the area as part of the ongoing probe.
