From Satheesan to Pinarayi, Kerala leaders remember Sree Narayana Guru on Samadhi Day
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan and Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday paid tribute to social reformer Sree Narayana Guru on his Samadhi Day.
Satheesan, in a post on X, respectfully remembered the Guru on the occasion.
Vijayan, in a Facebook post, described Sree Narayana Guru as a key figure in Kerala's social renaissance and said he laid the foundation for the state's transformation.
He said the Guru spread the message of knowledge and humanity in a society affected by caste-based discrimination and social inequalities.
Vijayan also said the Guru gave a new direction to struggles for the rights of marginalised communities, helped them achieve social and economic progress and encouraged people to move beyond traditional occupations towards industries and new employment opportunities.
The former chief minister said the Guru's vision of a caste-free and secular society continues to serve as a guiding principle and that his memory would inspire efforts towards a more equal future.
Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala also paid tribute, saying the Guru taught that the essence of human existence lies in humanity. He described Sree Narayana Guru as a proponent of universal humanity.
State Electricity Minister and Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Sunny Joseph remembered the Guru as a visionary who transformed Kerala's social conscience through his deeds and philosophy.
Joseph said the Guru's ideals remain relevant and continue to offer guidance for the future. He called for renewed commitment to unity, mutual love and harmony, recalling the Guru's message that being a good human being matters above religious identity.
Kerala BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar also paid tribute to Sree Narayana Guru, recalling his teaching, “One Caste, One Religion, One God for Mankind.”
Chandrasekhar said the Guru's teachings remain relevant and described him as a great saint and social reformer.
