3 die, several hospitalised after consuming alcohol in Palakkad; spurious liquor suspected

Palakkad: Three people died at Kanjikode here after consuming alcohol. The deceased were identified as Raman, Ayyappan and Sivan of Payattukadu tribal colony. It is suspected that they consumed spurious liquor.

The colony residents consumed liquor together on Sunday evening. One of them collapsed at night and died after vomiting continuously. Other two were found dead in the wee hours of Monday.

Some other people, including women who drank alcohol with them, were admitted to the Palakkad District Government Hospital as their condition worsened. It is suspected that the liquor they consumed was mixed with sanitizer.

The police clarified that it can be confirmed if they consumed spurious liquor only after performing postmortem. The colony residents informed that all of them consumed the same type of liquor.
