Kerala Congress leader Skaria Thomas passes away

Kottayam: Kerala Congress leader and former MP Skaria Thomas, 77, passed away on Thursday at a private hospital here. He was undergoing post-Covid treatment.
He was selected as Lok Sabha MP from Kottayam in 1977 and 1980 and was later defeated by CPM’s K Suresh Kurupu in 1984.
Skaria Thomas has also served as the general secretary and vice chairman of Kerala Congress. Later in 2015, he created the Kerala Congress (Skaria) faction and was serving as the chairman of the party.
He had worked with Kerala Congress leaders KM Mani, PJ Joseph and PC Thomas and had contested to the Assembly from Kothamangalam and Kaduthuruthy.
Skaria had also worked as the chairman of Travancore Sugars and Kerala State Industrial and Enterprises.
Son of KT Skaria and Achamma, he has served as the office bearer of Knanaya church.
He is survived by wife Lalitha and children Nirmala, Anitha, Sakariya and Latha.
