Iritty (Kannur): Sheeja, a teacher and sister of CPI Rajya Sabha member P Santhosh Kumar has levelled allegations against the CPM-led Women’s Cooperative Society here. According to Sheeja, she has not yet received an amount of Rs 18 Lakh, which she had deposited in two stages at the Society, even after the maturity period. Now, an amount of Rs 20 lakh, including the interest, is due to her.

Sheeja said she has been approaching the Society since last July. However, Society sent her back seeking more time to pay off the amount. She had invested Rs 6 Lakh in July, 2021 and Rs 12 Lakh in December same year. Initially, she had deposited the amount for a year and later extended it for another year, believing the authorities.

Sheeja had also filed a complaint in December 2023 with  M V Jayarajan, the then CPM district secretary and present LDF candidate in Kannur. However, no reply was received, she added. Now, she is staging a protest in front of the society office as their promise that the money will be paid back in March was not kept. Sheeja also said that she would take legal action if the amount was not paid back.

Meanwhile, refuting her charge, the Society’s governing body said that Sheeja had demanded the amount in total and that the Society, however,  could pay it only in installments. The governing body said they even tried to pay an installment directly at her place and that they had promised a time bound payment of the balance amount.
