Female leader who claimed 'casting couch' exists in Congress party expelled
Kochi: Senior Congress leader Simi Rosebell John, who accused the Congress party in Kerala of having a 'casting couch' similar to the one in the film industry, was expelled from the party. She was expelled from the primary membership of the Congress.
In a press release, KPCC explained that Simi was expelled from the primary membership of the party for insulting female leaders before the media. KPCC General Secretary M Liju informed that the decision was taken by President K Sudhakaran MP.
According to the press release, the disciplinary action was taken because prima facie the party was convinced that Simi's act was a serious breach of discipline. The KPCC claimed that she made the allegation with the connivance of political enemies to psychologically break and defame lakhs of women leaders and workers of the Congress party. KPCC office bearers, political affairs committee members, women leaders and the Mahila Congress state president had earlier requested the party leadership to take action against Simi.
On Saturday, Simi had sharply criticized Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan and other Congress leaders, alleging that only those close to the leadership receive opportunities within the party.
In response to a media query, Rosebell John stated that many individuals who have had negative experiences have shared their stories with her, and she possesses proof that will be revealed in due course. She mentioned having advised those who complained to her.
She singled out the name of Jebi Mather MP while alleging that certain members are receiving undue honours in Congress. She also noted that they had remained silent when Mather was made All India Secretary of the Youth Congress, as well as when she joined the Mahila Congress eight years ago. She questioned how many women in the KPCC face similar issues and pointed out that those who followed through with actions are still being mistreated, while others are favoured by top leaders.
