Sexual assault case: Police hands over arrest warrant against Vijay Babu to home ministry

Kochi: Actor and producer Vijay Babu, who is facing sexual assault charges, landed in more trouble with the Kochi police handing over a copy of the arrest warrant to the union home ministry. According to reports, Vijay is absconding in Dubai. 

Additional CJM court issued the arrest warrant against Vijay Babu on Sunday. The probe team informed that the union home ministry will forward the arrest warrant to Interpol and Dubai Police soon.

The arrest warrant was issued as part of serving a red corner notice against Vijay Babu. The warrant will be handed over to Dubai police to trace Vijay Babu's location. Action will be taken to extradite him to Kerala.

Meanwhile, Vijay Babu contacted the complainant over phone and tried to influence her to settle the case. The probe team collected statements of some witnesses regarding this. It is learnt that the accused has been contacting some people in the film industry to influence the actress to withdraw her complaint.

Police have intensified moves to arrest Vijay Babu with the help of Interpol after observing his moves to subvert the probe. As the accused is absconding, more people expressed willingness to give statements against him.

At the same time, the Kerala High Court will consider his anticipatory bail plea on May 18.

Vijay Babu is on the run after a young actress filed a complaint in Ernakulam on April 22 that she was raped and beaten up by him a few times at a flat in Kochi.
