Alappuzha (Kerala): A severed human leg was discovered on the railway tracks at the Alappuzha station on Tuesday morning, according to police. Sanitation staff reportedly found the limb after the Alappuzha–Ernakulam MEMU train was moved from the platform to the yard.

An official from the Alappuzha Railway Police told a TV channel that the detached limb appeared to be “a couple of days old”.

“The inquest proceedings are going on. Thereafter, it will be sent for DNA analysis,” the officer said.

He added that investigators are also checking whether there have been any recent incidents of train runovers in other locations.

“As of now, we have not received any information about such an incident,” the officer stated, pointing out that “this particular train runs on other routes also. So we need to find out where the limb got entangled in it”.
