Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has issued an order extending the suspension of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) M R Ajith Kumar for a further 120 days (4 months). The action was taken on the grounds that his return to active service could adversely affect ongoing investigations against him.

The case pertains to an incident during former chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan's ‘Navakerala Yatra’ in Alappuzha, where police officers allegedly assaulted protesting Youth Congress and KSU activists. According to the investigation report, Ajith Kumar intervened to protect the police officers implicated in the assault.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by a Superintendent of Police (SP), submitted a report revealing that Ajith Kumar had attempted to subvert the probe using certain subordinate officers. Based on these findings, his initial three-month suspension has now been extended by another 120 days.
