Senior journalist G Vinod passes away

Thiruvananthapuram: Senior journalist and Malayala Manorama Special Correspondent G Vinod has passed away. He was 54. He died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. The funeral will be held later.
Vinod was the son of late Gopinatha Panicker (Retired Statistics Officer, University of Kerala) and Ramadevi (former employee of the University of Kerala). He was a resident of Sharada Nivas at Murinjapalam near Medical College.
Vinod was noted for breaking several major scoops and producing outstanding investigative reports, particularly on the Home Department and the police. He received numerous awards for excellence in reporting and investigative journalism from the State Government, the Press Academy, the Mumbai Press Club and the Thiruvananthapuram Press Club. He was also awarded Malayala Manorama’s Chief Editor’s Gold Medal for Best Journalist in 2005.
Vinod began his journalism career at Rashtradeepika. He joined Malayala Manorama in 2002 and worked at the Thiruvananthapuram bureau from then on. He had earlier served as union chairman at Chempazhanthy S N College.
He is survived by wife Sindhu Suryakumar, Executive Editor of Asianet News, and son Ishan S Vinod.
