Google Map misleads; Scooter and car land in Alappuzha lake

Alappuzha: In an unexpected turn of events, three youths who relied on Google Maps for navigation ended up driving their vehicles into a lake near Punnamada Resort late Wednesday night. There were no casualties in the incident.
It happened at around 11:30 pm when the trio, all employees of a private financial institution, were returning from a celebration at a resort.
One of the employees was using Google Maps to navigate his scooter, while his friends followed in a car. The map, however, failed to indicate the end of the road near a pier, leading both the scooter and the car into the lake.
According to local police, the scooter and the car went into the water at a pier adjacent to the jetty where boats are docked. Fishermen in the area quickly responded, rescuing the youths and bringing them safely to shore. The scooter was also retrieved from the water.
The fire force and police arrived promptly after being informed of the incident. Despite their efforts, the car could not be recovered even late at night.
