Kozhikode: Opposition leader in Kerala Assembly V.D. Satheesan on Saturday visited human rights activist Grow Vasu at the district jail in Kozhikode.

Satheesan, accompanied by other Congress leaders, assured support to the formal naxal leader in his case.

Addressing the media following his visit, Satheesan revealed that he had earlier planned to meet Vasu in person but became preoccupied with the Puthuppally byelection.

"The issue will be brought to the attention of the Kerala Assembly. I respect his resolve to hold a protest even at the age of 94. There may be ideological differences between us. The government, on the other hand, is being mocked for its actions against him," he said.

Satheesan criticised Kerala Police for preventing Vasu from raising slogans when he appeared in court. By citing the alleged efforts to have the Assembly ruckus case dismissed, Satheesan opined that the government should be held responsible for not dropping the case against Vasu.

The incident about Grow Vasu’s case happened in 2016 when the veteran Maoist leader and a few others had gathered in front of the mortuary at the Kozhikode Medical College to protest the deaths of Maoists Kuppuswamy alias Devarajan and Ajitha Parmesan alias Kaveri who were killed in an alleged encounter. Vasu and others launched their protest when the dead bodies of the duo were brought to the hospital.
