Sambar deer visits Kozhikode town puzzling locals and forest officials

Kozhikode: In a rare event, a sambar deer was spotted at Olavanna in the Kozhikode city limit on Thursday. The deer that fell in a tank in the courtyard of a house was rescued by the officials of the Forest department.

The sambar deer fell in the tank in the premises of Iringallur native Ranees’ house at around 9 am on Thursday. The deer was rescued around 12 pm by the forest department officials. They had no clue how the deer reached here.

Children and locals crowded at the spot to see the deer that visited the locality out of the blue. The deer suffered minor injuries on neck and back while attempting to get out of the tank. 

Pantheerankavu police and officials from Vanasree in Mathottam reached here after the locals passed information. Later, a team of forest officials from Thamarassery under section officer TV Bineesh Kumar arrived to rescue the deer. After providing required treatment, the deer will be released into the forest, said officials.
