Kochi: Four Sabarimala pilgrims were injured on Wednesday morning when their car collided with a truck on a major highway in Kerala, local police said.

The accident occurred around 6 a.m. on the MC Road as the group was returning from the hilltop shrine. An officer from the Muvattupuzha police station confirmed that all four passengers are from outside Kerala. Two of the victims sustained serious injuries, while a fifth person in the vehicle escaped unhurt.

While some reports suggested a fatality among the injured, police have not officially confirmed any deaths.

The collision caused a major traffic bottleneck on the MC Road after the truck became immobilised in the centre of the roadway. Recovery efforts were delayed because the heavy-duty crane required to move the truck was unable to reach the scene due to the mounting gridlock.
