Thiruvananthapuram: The 'PM Gati Shakti', which oversees central approval for infrastructure projects, has approved the implementation of the Sabarimala airport. This marks a significant step forward as the Kerala government moves closer to realizing the ambitious project of the state.

The final hurdle is obtaining approval from the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), pending the completion of state government notifications and procedures.

PM-Gati Shakti is a central initiative that coordinates various ministries and grants permissions for multi-level infrastructure projects, including roads, railways, airports, and water transport. The department reviews and approves master plans submitted by state governments.

The approval was granted after examining a project recommendation by the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) for the Sabarimala airport. The Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-Informatics (BISAG-N) prepared the project's geo-mapping, which was considered for granting permission.
