Road accident kills 2 Kerala tourists in Karnataka’s Udupi district

Karnataka: Two tourists from Kerala died and eight others sustained injuries after a head-on collision between a jeep and a fish transport vehicle in Udupi district of Karnataka, Deccan Chronicle reported on Sunday.

The report said the victims were part of a group from Kottayam who were travelling in a hired jeep during a visit to Kollur and Kodachadri.

According to the report, the accident took place near Dali village on the Kollur–Kodachadri route in Byndoor taluk between 1 pm and 2 pm. It added that the group had reached Kollur for darshan and later hired a local vehicle to travel to Kodachadri. The jeep was returning towards Kollur when the collision occurred.

Jyothi and Ariya Anoop died in the accident.

Injured list and police action

The injured include Arjun (9), Ayan (5), Avani (8), Jyotish (43), Mini (60), Aby (36), Anoop (37), and jeep driver Devaraj.

Police said the driver of the fish transport vehicle fled the scene after the crash. A case has been registered and investigation is underway.
