Illegal installation of cross on encroached land in Parunthumpara in Idukki removed

Parunthumpara (Idukki): The cross that was illegally installed on encroached land in Parunthumpara, Idukki district, has been dismantled. The cross was removed by the Peerumedu Tahsildar and a team. It took about three hours to take down the large concrete cross, which was approximately 15 feet high. The encroachment of land in Parunthumpara was brought to public attention through a special report by Mathrubhumi News.
The Revenue Department, with the help of the police, initiated the process to remove the cross. The cross was broken and dismantled using cutters. This marks the first action taken regarding the encroachment. The cross had been installed at the site after a large pit was dug and tea plants were uprooted.
The cross appeared only after the news about the land encroachment was aired. It is assumed that the installation of the cross was carried out after detailed planning. Following the Mathrubhumi News report, the Idukki District Collector took action to vacate the encroached land. A special team was appointed for this purpose, and they began surveying the area. The Revenue Department issued a stop memo, and it was during this time that the cross suddenly appeared.
