RESA development: Cabinet decides to provide Rs 10 lakh extra for houses acquired in Karipur

Kozhikode: The compensation amount for those who would lose their houses due to the acquisition of land for the development of Kozhikode International Airport will be increased. In a recent cabinet meeting, it was decided to provide Rs 10 lakh to the affected homeowners.
The expansion of RESA (Runway End Safety Area) will result in the loss of 64 houses and one Anganwadi building. Initially, the decision was to offer Rs 4,60,000 above the amount fixed by the public works department for the houses. However, the homeowners expressed that this amount was inadequate to cover their losses. Subsequently, the government decided to raise the compensation to 10 lakhs.
The current compensation rates are estimated at Rs. 3,000 per square foot for a house and Rs. 2.5 lakhs per cent for a plot. With the revised decision, an additional amount of Rs. 10 lakhs will be provided along with the existing compensation to better support those affected by the land acquisition for the airport's development.
