Thiruvananthapuram: The appointment of general secretaries and Morcha (wings) office-bearers in the state BJP will be delayed. The initial plan was to announce the office-bearers by the second week of April. However, the reorganisation may only happen after the new national president assumes office. Then, the new office-bearers may be appointed only by May.

State president Rajeev Chandrasekhar had earlier stated that there would be no delay in announcing the office-bearers. The plan was to complete the reorganisation by giving adequate representation to a youth team that includes women, based on performance. However, progress could not be made further. The selection of office-bearers in 30 organisational districts will be completed by the end of this week. The new state president is currently visiting the districts.

In the state unit, the general secretaries are most important after the president. In the core committee that includes former presidents, general secretaries are also members. The current general secretaries are Union Minister George Kurian, MT Ramesh, C Krishnakumar, and P Sudheer. Even after George Kurian became a Union Minister, no replacement has been done. It is certain that there will be internal competition for the position of general secretary.

Although leaders have stated that there are no groups within the BJP, in the past, office-bearer positions have always been distributed to represent different factions. However, the current president has announced that such considerations will not be made this time.

Leaders from other parties and those from the film industry have so far been accommodated by appointing them as vice presidents. Even though the reorganisation is said to be inclusive and accommodate all, there is still no clarity on what positions will be assigned to them.
