Remarks on interfaith marriage: SFI, DYFI slam Nasar Faizy Koodathai

Thiruvananthapuram/Kannur: Democratic Youth Federation of India and Students' Federation of India, the outfits of CPM, have slammed Sunni Yuvajana Sangham (SYS) state general secretary Nasar Faizy Koodathai’s remarks related to interfaith marriage.
Samastha Kerala Jem-iyyathul Ulama (influential Muslim body of Sunni scholars and clerics) leader had attacked CPM and its outfits for their alleged targeting of Muslim women and promotion of interfaith marriages among them. According to Faizy, Muslim girls are being abducted for interfaith marriages. “CPM and DYFI are behind it,” he said. Faizy was addressing the gathering at the Sunni Mahallu Federation event in Kozhikode district. He urged Mahallu committees to keep their guard up against interfaith marriages. “Some people believe secularism is only possible if a Hindu marries a Muslim,” he added.
DYFI termed the remarks as something antithetical to a civilised society. DYFI state secretary VK Sanoj opined that Faizy's remarks hinder the fight against communalism. “It is a personal choice of a person to decide whom to marry and how to live,” he said.
According to SFI, his remarks sound exactly like "Sangh Parivar’s Love Jihad claims". SFI in a statement noted that it has always organised students under secularism and not apostasy.
Faizy has always remained in the news due to controversies. During the last FIFA World Cup, he had opposed the game claiming that it is becoming addictive. “The restriction is only intended to prevent people from acting in ways that are against Islamic beliefs,” he had said.
