Railways to tighten ticket checks in Kerala from October 1: ID verification to be stricter

Kollam: The Railways will conduct a special ticket-checking drive across the Southern Railway from October 1 to 31, with closer scrutiny of concession tickets, special reservation quotas and group bookings.
Tickets booked under concessions and special quotas will be checked carefully, while the identity documents of passengers will also be verified. In group bookings, the identity documents of all passengers will be examined.
The move is aimed at preventing revenue leakage and curbing the misuse of quotas, concessions and passes. Railway authorities have also assessed that irregularities have become widespread due to the increasing presence of agents.
The Southern Railway and the Railway Board have directed officials to conduct a special ticket-checking drive from October 1 to 31. If at least one of the passengers listed on a ticket does not carry the required original identity document, all passengers on that ticket will be treated as travelling without a valid ticket.
They will be charged a penalty. Passengers travelling on tickets booked under concessions or special reservation quotas must carry the original documents proving their eligibility. Ticket examiners have been instructed to verify these documents.
Passengers travelling using digital passes issued to railway employees and pensioners must also ensure that at least one passenger carries the required original identity document. For unreserved tickets, ticket examiners have been instructed to verify their authenticity using the TTE app.
Details of the special ticket-checking drive must be updated daily in the designated Google Sheet. All cases and incidents detected during the drive must also be reported to the concerned office every day.
A brief report on the special drive must be submitted within 10 days after its completion.
