Wayanad landslide rehabilitation: Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi to lay foundation for survivor homes

Kalpetta: In a major outreach effort for landslide-affected families in Wayanad, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will participate in the foundation-laying ceremony for houses being constructed for survivors of the Chooralmala- Mundakkai disaster of July 30, 2024.
Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, is scheduled to arrive at Kannur airport on Wednesday. He will first attend a farmers’ meeting at Peravoor before travelling to Kalpetta for the housing foundation stone event, set for 2.30 pm on Thursday.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will be present at the ceremony, which is part of the party’s broader rehabilitation and relief initiative for communities affected by the devastating hill district landslides.
Priyanka Gandhi’s schedule in Wayanad
Priyanka Gandhi will begin her engagements in Kalpetta with a DISHA meeting at the Collectorate. At 1.30 pm, she will hand over advanced equipment procured through CSR funding from JSW to the Forest Department’s Rapid Response Team (RRT), enhancing operational capacity amid rising man-animal conflict concerns. She had previously facilitated the provision of a state-of-the-art vehicle to the RRT.
Her visit extends beyond the housing programme:
- February 27: Inaugurate the laboratory at Kalikavu Service Co-operative Bank; preside over MES School’s silver jubilee celebrations at Kaithapoyil, Thiruvambady; lay the foundation stone for a new school block; visit the Chippilithode area related to the proposed Churam bypass project.
- February 28: Inspect the proposed Bairakuppa bridge project site; attend the golden jubilee of Knanaya Catholic Church; visit the residence of a Pulpally native killed in a recent tiger attack; participate in the key-handover ceremony of houses built by the Indian Union Muslim League for disaster survivors.
