YC workers, police clash during protest march in Alappuzha

Alappuzha: A clash broke out between the Youth Congress and the Police Force during a protest march to the district collectorate in connection with the arrest of YC state president Rahul Mamkoottathil. 

The march started from the town hall premise and headed to the collectorate. However, the police officials placed barricades near the collectorate to stop the protestors, leading to a clash. The police resorted to using water cannons and lathi-charge to disperse the protestors. 

Presently, Mamkoottathil is in judicial custody till January 22 in connection to a case registered over the violence during the YC protest march to the state secretariat last month. 

Last week, in an unprecedented move, the police arrested Mamkoottathil from his residence, leading to widespread protests across the state.
