Husband and mother-in-law arrested in pregnant woman’s suicide case in Kerala

Thrissur: A man and his mother have been arrested in connection with the death of a pregnant woman at her husband’s residence in Irinjalakuda. The deceased, Fazeela, was the wife of Naufal, a resident of Karumatra, Vellangallur. She was found hanging on the terrace of the house on Tuesday.
The arrests were made after Fazeela’s family alleged that she had been subjected to ongoing dowry-related harassment, which they claim led to her death. Police are currently interrogating Naufal.
Fazeela and Naufal had been married for a year and a half. The couple have one child. Naufal is employed at a cardboard manufacturing company.
Shortly before her death, Fazeela reportedly sent a WhatsApp message to her mother, detailing the abuse she had endured. In the message, she said she was pregnant for the second time and alleged that Naufal had kicked her in the stomach. She also claimed that his mother had verbally abused and mistreated her.
Her message read:
“Umma, I’m pregnant again. Naufal kicked me in the stomach and tortured me. When I was in pain, I held him by the neck. His mother also tortured me and verbally abused me. Umma, I’m dying — or they will kill me. Naufal broke my hand. But please, don’t let them conduct a post-mortem on me.”
According to her relatives, the message was the last communication she sent before taking her own life.
