Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has withdrawn the suspension of Industries Department Director K Gopalakrishnan, accused of creating WhatsApp groups based on religion, following a review by a committee led by the Chief Secretary. The disciplinary review committee accepted Gopalakrishnan's explanation and recommended his reinstatement. He will be assigned new responsibilities.

In contrast, the suspension of Agriculture Department Special Secretary N Prashanth IAS has been extended for another 120 days. Prashanth faces allegations of tarnishing the administration's image and making abusive remarks against Additional Chief Secretary Dr A Jayathilak on social media.

The controversy around Prashanth stems from his alleged actions during his tenure as Special Secretary for the 'Unnathi' welfare scheme for Scheduled Castes and Tribes. Reports claim he registered fake attendance and was involved in missing files related to the scheme. Following these revelations, Prashanth allegedly used social media to target Jayathilak, violating service rules.

Gopalakrishnan's suspension was linked to the creation of controversial WhatsApp groups, such as "Mallu Hindu Officers" and "Mallu Muslim Officers." Initially, Gopalakrishnan claimed his phone was hacked and multiple groups were created without his knowledge. However, a police investigation found no evidence of hacking, leading to his suspension. After further review, the government decided to revoke the suspension and reinstate him.

Prashanth, on the other hand, continues to face disciplinary action. He recently requested access to digital files to respond to the charges against him but is yet to reply formally.
