Thiruvananthapuram: The Election Commission has sought an explanation from John Brittas MP for participating in an employees meeting overriding the ban imposed by the Kerala University Vice Chancellor. The Member of Parliament has been issued a notice for alleged violation of election code of conduct.

Now, John Brittas will have to give an explanation either directly or via a representative. The Sub Collector, who is also the Nodal Officer, has also issued a notice asking University Employees Union General Secretary A S Sajith Khan and President Santhosh Nair, who are the organisers of the programme, to appear in person before the Election Commission.

With the poll code of conduct in force, using platforms of government institutions for political campaigns is strictly prohibited. The programme attended by John Brittas at the Kerala University campus was supposedly held by neglecting the orders issued against it by the University Vice Chancellor and the Registrar.
