Police to end probe into allegations of former journalist due to lack of cooperation

Thiruvananthapuram: The police investigation into the allegations levelled by former journalist G Shakthidharan is likely to be dropped due to lack of cooperation from him.
The controversy was sparked by a Facebook post made by Shakthidharan, a former associate editor of Deshabhimani, where he alleged that a top leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) had handled a large amount of money in cash.
Benny Behanan, a Member of Parliament, lodged a complaint with the Director General of Police (DGP) requesting an investigation into the matter.
The DGP forwarded the complaint to the Cantonment Assistant Commissioner for further investigation. Statements from both Shakthidharan and Benny Behanan were recorded as part of the investigation. However, Shakthidharan declined to cooperate with the investigation and stated that he had nothing more to add beyond what he had already written on Facebook. Similarly, Benny Behanan mentioned that he had no additional information about the matter.
Given the lack of cooperation from both parties and the absence of new information, the police are reportedly in the process of ending the investigation. A report stating that further police investigation is not feasible in this case has been submitted to the DGP.
