Kozhikode: The special investigation team probing the Pantheerankavu domestic violence case said that the Civil Police Officer KT Sarath Lal of Pantheerankavu police station who had helped Rahul P Gopal, prime accused, flee the country, is also absconding.

Sarath Lal, who was suspended, was issued a notice by the police to appear before the SIT for interrogation in connection with the incident. However, he failed to turn up before the team. Meanwhile, he filed a petition seeking anticipatory bail in the district sessions court a few days ago. The court considered the petition on Friday and decided to reconsider it on May 31.

The court also has asked the police to submit a report on May 31 in connection with this. Sarath Lal had moved his petition through advocates KP Muhammad Arif and PK Neethu. In the petition, it is argued that the allegation that he had helped Rahul flee the country is not true.

On Thursday, the newly wed, who is the complainant, gave her statement before the magistrate. The anticipatory bail petitions of Usha Kumari, mother of Rahul, the second accused and Karthika, Rahul’s sister and third accused, will be considered by district sessions judge on May 27. Though Usha Kumari was under treatment at Kozhikode medical college, she was discharged on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Usha Kumari and Rahul’s sister have lodged a complaint with Human Rights Commission saying that police had locked the house and took away the keys which caused a lot of troubles for them as they couldn’t even take the dresses from the house when Usha Kumari was in the hospital.
