Elathur police arrest 12 drunk and unlicensed bus drivers in major crackdown

Elathur: Police in Elathur have intensified checks after receiving reports of unlicensed drivers operating buses on public routes. Traffic SI Ajith Kumar stopped an Adwaith bus plying the Kozhikode City-Medical College route on Wednesday and found that the driver did not have a valid license.
The bus was pulled over, and upon inspection, it was found that the driver, 19-year-old Ashwin from Karuvissery, was driving without a license. As a result, a fine of Rs 10,500 was imposed on him. The police have since gathered information on other drivers operating buses without the necessary documents.
In addition to addressing unlicensed drivers, the police have been cracking down on bus drivers operating under the influence of alcohol. In the past two days alone, 12 bus drivers have been charged for driving while intoxicated. Authorities have warned that strict action will be taken against drivers who operate vehicles recklessly, including those who drive at high speeds or fail to follow traffic regulations.
The police have also launched an initiative to target uninsured autorickshaws, ensuring that public transport remains safe for all commuters.
