Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set for a packed visit to Kochi on Wednesday, combining political outreach with the launch of major development projects worth ₹10,800 crore. The visit comes at a time when assembly elections in Kerala are expected in April or May.

Modi will attend multiple events across the city, including the inauguration of central government projects, participation in a community event, and the NDA’s state election convention at Kaloor. A large turnout of party workers and supporters is expected as the ruling alliance at the Centre steps up its political campaign in the state.

Arrival in Kochi and community event

The Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive at the international airport at 11.30 am on Wednesday. From the airport, he will travel to the Navy helipad before proceeding by road to Marine Drive.

At Marine Drive, Modi will take part in the concluding ceremony of the golden jubilee celebrations of the Kerala Dheevara Sabha. After the event, he will head to Kaloor, where a series of programmes have been scheduled at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium.

A reception and roadshow are planned when the Prime Minister reaches Stadium Road, ahead of the main events at the venue.

₹10,800 crore development projects

At the stadium, Modi will launch and inaugurate several infrastructure and energy projects with a combined value of around ₹10,800 crore.

Among them is the foundation stone for a Polypropylene Unit at the Kochi Refinery of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited. The facility, with a capacity of 400 kilo tonnes per annum, will be built at a cost of over ₹5,500 crore. Polypropylene is widely used in packaging, automotive components, medical devices, textiles and household products.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the six-laning of the Thalapady–Chengala section of National Highway 66, built at a cost of more than ₹2,650 crore. The stretch is part of the Mumbai–Kanyakumari Economic Corridor and is expected to strengthen connectivity between Kasaragod and Kannur districts as well as neighbouring regions including Mangalore and Muzhapilangad.

Another major road project to be inaugurated is the Kozhikode Bypass from Vengalam to Ramanattukara, constructed at a cost of about ₹2,140 crore. The bypass is expected to cut travel time along the stretch from more than an hour to around 15 to 20 minutes. It is also expected to improve access to destinations such as Kozhikode Beach, Beypore Port and Kappad Beach, supporting tourism and trade.

In addition, Modi will inaugurate 23 rural roads built under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in the state.

Railway and renewable energy initiatives

The visit will also include several railway and energy-related projects.

Three redeveloped railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme — Shoranur Junction, Kuttippuram and Changanassery — are scheduled to be inaugurated. The Prime Minister will also dedicate to the nation the Shoranur–Nilambur Road railway line electrification project.

A new train service between Palakkad and Pollachi will be flagged off during the event.

In the renewable energy sector, Modi will lay the foundation stone for a 50 MW floating solar project at West Kallada in Kollam.

NDA convention and political campaign

After the project launches, the Prime Minister will participate in the NDA state election convention at the Kaloor stadium.

The convention carries the slogan “Maattam Thudangam – Vikasitha Keralam Modikkoppam”, highlighting the message of beginning change and building a developed Kerala with Modi. The alliance is also running a campaign across all 140 constituencies in the state with the slogan “Mathiyaayi MLA, Maattam Thudangam”, targeting sitting MLAs.

Signature campaigns are being conducted in all booths after preparing charge sheets against MLAs as part of the campaign.

Around 50,000 NDA workers from Ernakulam and Thrissur districts are expected to attend the declaration meeting. Leaders said several parties and leaders, along with their supporters, are also expected to join the alliance during the convention.
